RENTON, Wash. — Magic: The Gathering manufacturer Wizards of the Coast announced Saturday morning that the controversial card Baby Shaker would be banned in the Extended format as of May 1.
The card probably never should have been printed, said Mark Gottlieb of Wizards.
“We’ve done some pretty morbid stuff over the years, but it turns out that they just went a little too far with this one,” Gottlieb said. “They say this is more offensive than the flavor text on Gorilla Titan — and I’d have to agree,” he said.
Baby Shaker will also be banned in Legacy, Gottlieb said. The card will also be banned in Vintage as part of a general ban on “dead baby cards,” much like the ban on ante cards or dexterity cards, he added.
Reporters asked Gottlieb whether the brokenness of the card was a factor.
“Well, the designers and developers thought that it would be fun for players to see how long they could keep their creature alive,” Gottlieb told The Magic Lampoon. “However, it turns out that they just kill their own creature immediately,” he said.

What is that in the picture anyway? It looks like some sort of medieval torture device?
It’s actually Yawgmoth’s Salad Tongs
I would have thought he’d use Thallid Thongs
