Wizards Announces Island Will Now Be Mythic Rare

RENTON, Wash. — Wizards of the Coast announced Sunday morning that starting with the upcoming set Rise of the Eldrazi, Island would now be printed only at the mythic rare level.
The move has been slowly approaching since Wizards began printing utility cards such as Time Warp and Mindbreak Trap as mythic rares, reversing an earlier suggestion that mythic rares would primarily be big, splashy legendary creatures and planeswalkers.
“We want mythic rares to have an epic feel,” said Mark Rosewater of Wizards of the Coast. “When players open a booster pack, we want players to be able to say, ‘Wow, I got a counterspell that I need for my sideboard,’ or ‘Wow, I got the sorcery that the combo deck requires,’ or ‘Wow, I got an Island, thank god because they’re two-fifty each now,” he said.
Rosewater said that players won’t really miss the initial system, under which all the mythic rares were planeswalkers and giant legends.
“Seriously, you didn’t actually think that we thought that players were happy to pull some eight-mana angel demon dragon, did you?” Rosewater said. “They’ll be much more excited when they say, ‘Oh good, an Island, I think my draft exactly paid for itself,” he said.

How in the hell is Time Warp a utility card, jackass?
That wasn’t very nice. It’s great in a Pyromancer’s Ascension deck. I love this article, it’s up there with one other one I read (possibly on another site), a commentary about Island, a card review. Some of the guys were saying “This card is broken, I’ve banned it in my store.”

Why would I want an Island to take up the rare spot in a pack? It’s a beautiful picture but who doesn’t have boatloads of Islands already? And aren’t lands usually provided at drafts?
This is the stupidest idea ever this is exactly why me and my friends stopped playing yugioh!! They started making crappy cards that should be common that no one wants or needs as secret rares!!! (this is the equivalent of a mythic rare in magic) Nobody wants something like this so dont because this may lose you quite a few players and put this game to a place where no one wants to go!

Dude i think thast is the point. The idea is to increase the other creatures’ rarity, and how much they are wanted and therefore increasing the value. A BAMF card would be so BAMF if everyone had one, now would it?
Clearly this is just a bunch of malarkey. That alone would ruin the point for people buying packs. And why would it be an island alone?

I just took a closer look and realized that it’s completely fake…look at the copyright. It says 2009, but RoE is coming out well into 2010…Duh.
