Recently, it has come to our attention that certain of our items we’ve published here at The Magic Lampoon have generated a bit of confusion.

In November, we wrote that Island would become a mythic rare in the forthcoming set, Rise of the Eldrazi. This bulletin prompted many user comments. User Chris, for example, wrote, “And not to mention people, keep in mind that this is a HUMOR SITE.” And user Travis said, “Sorry, article writer, but I am calling your bluff. This isn’t real.”

As another example, we recently reprinted our announcement about rule changes to Magic: The Gathering. This announcement, in which we described changes to Magic terminology such as “the brain pan scroll room zone,” generated a great many user comments. User Andrew wrote, “How on Earth did anyone take this article seriously??” User Ben wrote, “‘Lampoon, noun: Satire; specifically a harsh satire usually directed against an individual’ — Merriam-Webster.”

We feel that the mistaken impressions that have come to people upon the publication of these bulletins are our fault.

Apparently, the name of our site, “Magic Lampoon,” and the sig that we use, “Best damn Magic humor site ever,” have caused people to come to believe that many of our bulletins are not real.

We want our readers to be confident. To that end, we’d like to assure our readers that everything we publish here at The Magic Lampoon is entirely real and true.

– Island will indeed be a mythic rare in Rise of the Eldrazi
– The library is indeed going to be called the brain pan scroll room zone
– Grak’s Managoonz when printed will tap for nine mana
– The vampire Szadek truly is Ravnica’s most influential and popular DJ
– In the Magic arcade fighting game, Mageta did indeed have a spinning pile driver
– The Rays did refuse to concede to the Yankees even though they couldn’t make the playoffs
– Pakistan did add 21 mana to its mana pool
– The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale actually is known among pro players as “Assernacle at Pendrell Butts”
– From the Vault: Squire indeed comes out this September
– Black actually will do anything to win.

In short, we apologize for any misapprehensions that our casual attitude may have caused. We have plans in the near future to change the name of our site to “The Magic Truth Machine.” Hopefully, this move will end any confusion.

We received lots of entries, and many of them were extremely good. It was a tough decision. In the end, when having to decide among several funny articles, it was the unique way in which V. Wedge utilized the theme that won the day.

Planeswalkers

It could be about the planeswalkers in Lorwyn. It could be about planeswalkers from old Magic stories. It could be about planeswalkers you made up. You decide.

There are some rules for this contest:

1. Entries must be sent to submissions@magiclampoon.com 

Submissions sent by any other means or to any other address won’t count! That means you can’t simply PM your entry, and you can’t simply post it on the message board!

2. Entries must be clearly marked as entries for the contest. If it’s not marked as an entry, it won’t be counted as an entry.

3. Entries must be written by the entrant. They cannot have appeared on another Web site. They must be free and clear submissions to The Magic Lampoon, and must have been writted specifically for the contest.

4. The Magic Lampoon reserves the right to run any entries, and also to not run any entries.

5. The Magic Lampoon staff will judge the contest based on its own standards of merit. We reserve the right to judge the entries by any criteria we see fit.

6. Members of The Magic Lampoon staff and their relatives are obviously ineligible to participate.

7. To receive the prize, should you be the winner, you must be willing to supply an address, of course. 

8. This is very important: The deadline for this contest is 11:59 p.m. Dec. 1, 2007, Eastern Standard Time.

The winner will be announced after that time.

Because of this contest, we have an important announcement: The Magic Lampoon will not be closing Nov. 30. To support this contest, the closure date of The Magic Lampoon has been rolled back to at least Dec. 31. Take a step back, Mr. Executioner!
